eagle poem

THE EAGLE - IRISH POEM BY VALERIE HENEY.

THE EAGLE.

If I were an eagle,
I would soar into the sky.
My massive wings
Catching earth's thermals.

I would glide over nature's tapestry,
Admiring the green hues.
My Emerald Isle,
My birth place.

My eagle eyes ever scanning,
I see ancient tombs.
Where bones of our brave
Celtic warriors are encased.

Spears and shields
Reflected earths sun.
Blinding and confusing
Defeating the young and strong.

This same sun is warming me,
Enriching my journey.
Its glory shines into ancient tombs
Highlighting secrets.

I had better return
To the safety of my cliff.
I direct my flight path
Powerful wings bring me home.

My giant claws grip the rock.
Tomorrow I will glide and soar,
I will trust in my ability to fly
I feel the excitement of another day.
